April 28, 2016: Alexander K. Tice was awarded the Office of Research and Economic Development 2016 Graduate Student Research Award for the College of Arts and Sciences. Sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development. Additionally, he was named the 2016 Research Assistant of the Year from the Department of Biological Sciences.

April 08 2016: Congratulations to Austin Walthall! Austin won third place presenting his Biology Undergraduate Research Symposium poster. This research lead to a publication (Walthall AC, Tice AK, Brown MW. 2016. A new species of Flamella (Amoebozoa, Variosea, Gracilipodida) isolated from a freshwater pool in southern Mississippi, USA. Acta Protozoologica. 55(2): X-XX.). This research was supported by our NSF grant.

February 28 2016: Congratulations to Alex Tice! Our paper "Sorodiplophrys stercorea: Another Novel Lineage of Sorocarpic Multicellularity" accepted in the Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology! This research was supported by our NSF grant.
February 27 2016: Brown just got back from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Protozoologie 35th meeting – Switzerland 2016 meeting. Brown gave a talk entitled "A step into the future of protistology, a single cell transcriptome revolution". It was a wonderful meeting with lots of new collaborations established!

February 1, 2016: Brown will be speaking for Darwin Week at Plymouth Bluff Science Center on Feb. 7, 2016 at 2PM. His public lecture is entitled "Tracking Convergent Evolution Across the Eukaryotes". Hope to see you there.

January 19, 2016: Two new manuscripts have been accepted one today and one yesterday (1/18/2016). The first is on coprophilic cercozoan amoebae (Bass et al. 2016: Environmental Microbiology) and the second is on the evolution of Archamoebae (Panek et al. 2016: Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution).
